FieldX offers a wide collection of control and security restrictions that let you control and manage your devices better. Setting up device and app restrictions features on the work managed devices reduces distractions and improves the security. Controlling the device settings and restricting access also prevents third-party apps from accessing corporate data and resources.
In FieldX, the term “restrictions” refer to controls and policies that an organisation want to push to all or a set of devices. There are more than 80+ restrictions can be applied on devices.
FieldX provides two sets of restrictions.
- Global Restrictions applies the restrictions on all the devices registered in FieldX portal. Whenever a global restriction is created, it is mandatorily applied to all devices. Consider this like base restrictions and controls all devices in your organisation should have.
Eg: You might want to enforce Password policy to all devices in the organisation irrespective of the group the device belongs to. - Group based restrictions are the restrictions applied on selected group of devices.
Configuring Restrictions
- Navigate to Restrictions page from side menu.
- Click on “new” button on top to add group based restriction or manage global restriction.
- Enter a restriction name to identify the restriction. We recommend using user friendly names based on the restrictions created or based on group.
- Each restriction in FieldX should have a unique “order” field. The order field is used to arrange the restrictions and they are applied as per the order. Any restriction in with lower order will be overridden by restriction of higher order.
- Each restriction can be applied on groups individually or multiple groups in one step. FieldX lets you configure this in one step, Select the Group(s) name from the Dropdown.
- The restriction page has divided all the restrictions in various categories based on the functionality. For instance, bluetooth related restrictions are under “Bluetooth Restrictions” category, and so on.
- Each Restriction expects either Dropdown or Text entry. The description under each restriction provides what format data is expected in case of text entry.
- Once the entries are added, click on “Save” button on the right top of the page.
Important notes for using Restrictions
- Create one Global Restriction set which will be applied on all the devices
- Create multiple group based restrictions and apply them on various types of devices which are in FieldX
- The “order” field in restrictions will apply the restrictions in ascending order. For eg: if bluetooth toggle is OFF in Global Restriction (order:1) and bluetooth toggle is ON under production devices (Order: 100), then the restriction ON will be applied as 1 < 100.
- Deleting restrictions will not reverse the applied restrictions from the managed devices. If restrictions have to be removed from the devices make sure you edit restrictions first and configure all the applied settings with the ‘Do not Apply’ option
